Aluminum Manufacturers In India

It’s estimated that global aluminum demand will increase by almost 40% by 2030. To meet demand growth in all industrial sectors, aluminum manufacturers will need to produce an additional 33.3 mt within 8 years. Keep on reading to find out why you should source aluminum manufacturers in India.

India: A leading source of Aluminum

Aluminum is widely used in various products, from daily items such as cans, foils, and kitchen utensils to products such as window frames and airplane parts. It is the metal with the fastest growing usage, growing nearly 20 times in the last few years. Our annual aluminum consumption has almost reached 65 million tonnes.
Where and how is aluminum mainly produced?

Let’s take a second to go back to how aluminum is made. The most commonly used raw material for aluminum is found in bauxite, which is made up of aluminum oxide mixed with other minerals. These minerals are mainly found in tropical areas, such as India. India holds almost 10% of the world’s bauxite reserves and shares around 5.3% of the global aluminum output. This makes India one of the world’s largest manufacturers that are rich in bauxite and a popular source for aluminum production.

Aluminum Processing

The Aluminium industry mainly consists of two primary phases:

1. The upstream sector involves mining and refining primary aluminum raw materials:

  • Collecting aluminum-rich minerals (bauxites).
  • Crush, dry, and ground the minerals and mix them with water to form a thick paste.
  • Collect the mixture in containers that are heated with steam to remove most of the silicon.

2. The downstream sector includes smelting, casting, and fabricating aluminum into  semi-finished products such as rods, bars, castings, and forging:

  • The mixture will be poured into reduced cells with molten cryolite.
  • Electric currents are generated in the mixture, which helps to break the bond between aluminum and oxygen atoms creating liquid aluminum at the bottom of the reduction cells.

Benefits of Aluminium

  • It’s a cost-saving replacement for steel, copper, zinc, and lead
  • Has a high conductivity of electricity (one pound of aluminum has the same electrical current-carrying capacity as two pounds of copper)
  • Lightweight
  • Resistant to corrosion
  • Great conductor of heat
  • Malleable
  • It becomes strong when mixed with other metals.
