What is plastic injection molding?

Raw plastic polymer is formed into complex plastic components through the use of an injection molding machine and tooling. The polymer is melted by the machine, placed under pressure, and ‘injected’ into the mold cavity in the tooling. The cavity is in the shape of your final components, including its finish in many cases. Once in the cavity, the polymer cools, forming into the component and is then ejected. It may need to be finished to remove any imperfections such as flow lines or to add its final finish. Due to the nature of polymers, the injection molding process can create plastic components in a multitude of colors and different types of plastics, each with its own properties (for example, some may be tougher than others).
