Factory Audit Passed, But Quality Problems Persist? [Ep. 353] - Sofeast

Your Factory Passed the Audit. So Why Is Production Still Going Wrong? [Podcast Ep. 353]

November 6, 2026

Adrian Leighton

Your Chinese manufacturer passed its factory audit, so why are you now experiencing product defects, inconsistent manufacturing quality, or recurring production problems? A positive audit result can give buyers confidence in a supplier, but it doesn’t guarantee that the factory will consistently manufacture products to the required standard.

In this episode of China Manufacturing Decoded (Ep. 353), Sofeast’s Adrian and Renaud discuss why quality problems can emerge after a supplier has been audited and approved. They explore what factory quality management system audits actually reveal, why superficial checklist audits can be misleading, and how a manufacturer’s performance can deteriorate over time.

Renaud explains how hidden subcontracting, seasonal production pressures, inexperienced workers, and unauthorized material changes can affect quality. However, the manufacturer isn’t always responsible. Poor product design, inadequate process validation, and pressure to start mass production too quickly can also contribute. The discussion concludes with practical advice on choosing the right manufacturing controls and deciding when and how to re-audit existing suppliers.
