There is a lot for importers to like about silicone rubber as a production material. It’s high-performing and provides many benefits over using organic rubber or common plastics such as PE or PP.

Can you be sure that your supplier in China or Asia are telling you, in detail, everything that you need to know about the silicone that they’re using in your products, and about the process they follow? They possibly won’t, so we’ve collected key information here for you.

The benefits of silicone as a production material and how it compares to common plastics [Whitepaper]

This type of rubber is highly prized as manufacturing material due to providing the following benefits over organic rubber and some of the common plastics:

  • Better heat or cold resistance (especially at extremes between -50°C to 350°C)
  • Less reactive to chemicals
  • Better for electrical insulation
  • More durable and doesn’t tear as easily
  • Can withstand harsh weather, such as strong UV, wind, and rain

Not only is silicone durable and non-reactive as outlined above, but it can be formed into many shapes, components, or products using almost the same equipment as is used for thermoplastics (i.e. an injection molding machine). This perhaps avoids the need for a lot of costly new tooling for some importers or factories.

We created a whitepaper which goes into detail about silicone’s benefits in comparison to common plastics. Read it here:
